In my practice I use several forms of therapy. In order to help you as best as possible, we will discuss in the first meeting which form of treatment would best suit your question. Below you will find more information about the possible treatment options.
How you think and how you behave has a huge influence on how you feel. This is exactly what this treatment method uses. On the one hand, you learn to look critically at your negative and anxious thoughts. You learn to realize that these thoughts do not always have to be correct and that you may also think differently about a situation, or about yourself.
On the other hand, you learn how you can tackle problems more effectively. By dealing differently with things in your life, you get more grip.
The method uses several techniques that can be applied to achieve these changes.
Often we fight against negative feelings and thoughts, and tend to avoid these. This can make people gloomy, anxious or start worrying excessively. Using the ACT method, you learn to make room for unpleasant feelings, distance yourself from difficult thoughts, look at yourself in a different way, and finally focus your attention on the here and now. With these skills you will notice that you are no longer so easily stuck in your obstacles and problems. The great thing about ACT is that it is not only a specific solution to a specific problem, but also an overarching way to learn to deal differently with problems and life in general.
EMDR can be used when you cannot properly process a negative event. When someone cannot process an event properly, the negative memories can force themselves on in an annoying way. There may also be nightmares and gloom, among other things.
EMDR is often used for PTSD, but can sometimes also be used for other problems.
Through mindfulness you practice being fully present in your experience. As human beings, we often tend to worry. We experience stress and are quickly carried away by our problems.
By learning to focus your attention better and to become more aware of your body, you learn to be less distracted by your thoughts and problems. You learn to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, and you increase your awareness and insight into yourself. You can experience more calmness in your daily life, notice your own needs better and become more attentive to what is going on within yourself.
